Marc Jacobs has released his spring/summer 2015 campaign yesterday, confirming a lineup of nine lucky models: a mix of well-established names like Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls and fresh faces like Kendall Jenner (pictured above). It's Kendall's first campaign for the label, and only her second major campaign period — though it's her third time working with Marc Jacobs, having walked in his last two runway shows. As with many of her gigs, Kendall will likely be sending some thanks and flowers to stylist Katie Grand, her fashion fairy godmother/stunt queen, who served as the shoot's editor.

Flash 2A View Moment:
Frankie Goes to Hollywood;

On the back of an enormous publicity campaign, Frankie Goes to Hollywood dominated British music in 1984. Frankie's dance-pop borrowed heavily from the then-current Hi-NRG movement, adding a slick pop sensibility and production. What really distinguished the group was not their music, but their marketing campaign. With a series of slogans, T-shirts, and homoerotic videos, the band caused enormous controversy in England and managed to create some sensations in the United States. However, the Frankie sensation was finished as soon as it was started; by the release of their second album, Liverpool, in 1986, the group's audience had virtually disappeared.

Flash 2A View Moment: “Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside while still alive. Never surrender.” ― Tupac Shakur

"All Eyez " was on Tupac Amaru Shakur;
known by his stage names 2Pac and Makaveli, was an American rapper. In addition to his status as a top-selling recording artist, Shakur was a successful film actor and a prominent social activist. He is recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest-selling rap artist, with over 75,000,000 albums sold worldwide, including over 50,000,000 in the United States.

Most of Shakur's songs are about growing up amid violence and hardship in ghettos, racism, problems in society and conflicts with other rappers. Shakur's work is known for advocating political, economic, social and racial equality.

Shakur's debut album, 2Pacalypse Now, gained critical recognition and backlash for its controversial lyrics. Shakur became the target of lawsuits and experienced other legal problems. Later, he was shot five times and robbed in the lobby of a recording studio in New York City. Following the event, Shakur grew suspicious that other figures in the rap industry had prior knowledge of the incident and did not warn him; the controversy helped spark the East Coast-West Coast hip hop rivalry.

                                                     "Expletive You"

On September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot four times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas.
Stories that Shakur is still alive persist today, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Since then, his story has become legend.

For any population who feels that they don’t have folks to speak for them, there’s always the hope that an icon like Tupac still exists. And when you hear Tupac’s music today, it reignites that hope; it reignites that wish that he was still around. And through his music, he will always be around. They didn’t want Tupac Shakur to be a martyr or hero because he told the cops "Expletive You".

Why am I fighting to live,
If I am just living to fight
Why am I trying to see.
When there aint nothing in sight
Why am I trying to give,
When no one gives me a try
Why am I dying to live,
If I am just living to die?

#TheJourney: Tupac was making a name for himself as an actor in the years before his death. Do you think he would have ended up on Broadway?

              Musical director Kenny Leon say― 'Holler If Ya Hear Me' to EW;
“California Love” is now a show tune. Tupac Shakur’s legacy forms the backbone of “Holler If Ya Hear Me,” tells a story about family, friendship and community. The world inside Tupac Shakur’s music and lyrics blazes to life in an entertaining new Broadway musical!

Broadway has always given voice to popular culture and social change. South Pacific, West Side Story, Hair, For Colored Girls…, Sarafina and Rent  are among the hits that hit home. Now Broadway gives voice to the lyrics of Tupac Shakur, whose music has sold over 77 million albums!

You can spend minutes, hours, days, weeks, or even months over-analyzing a situation; trying to put the pieces together, justifying what could've, would've happened... or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move the fuck on.

This Queen Is: “clearly among the most powerful people in the music industry at the moment … so to understand the operation behind such a powerful figure is always very interesting.”
― Elberse

For those who have somehow forgotten about the seminal news event of the past several years: Without any advance marketing, this music artist released a self-titled album of songs and videos at the stroke of midnight on December 13, 2013, effectively just leaving it on iTunes and walking away. When fans awoke to the stunning news, they found they could buy only the $15.99 album in full—sampling one song at a time was out of the question.

The Queen was able to eschew the standard prerelease industry regimen of advertisements, singles, public appearances, and just generally making any mention of a new album, in part because she is who?,—Beyoncé! Now, Business Professors Are Serious About Studying  The Queen Bey's Method.

There's the straight ahead Lenny Kravitz classic rock mojo that has helped him sell over 40 million albums. Then there's the surprising slight nods to everything from Duran Duran to Cameo. VIBE sat down with the veteran artist, actor, and father of actress Zoe Kravitz to discuss everything from the eyebrow-raising inspiration behind Strut; the racial politics he had to endure in achieving his full blown rock star cred; and finally gaining acceptance in the black community to what makes Stevie Wonder, Prince and Paul McCartney the ultimate badass musicians.— 'Get Rid Of The Guitar'

But I wouldn't do it, and at that time I was living a Ford Pinto. So I don't know what made me hold on. I wanted to be me, but when you are being offered recording deals at 17 and you are living in your car you would think I would be like, "Alright, whatever...I'll make the music y'all want me to make. Let me get this money." But I didn't, and I thank God, because you wouldn't be talking to me today. I would have made one album and it would have been over.

Real-World Music Listening
Whether your favorite song is Bach’s "Toccata And Fugue In D Minor" or Lil Wayne’s "Let It Rock," your brain reacts to it in the same way. When we hear our favorite music, our thoughts tend to shift inward, activating the default mode network (DMN) a network of brain regions that's active when a person is awake but at rest. Our favorite songs also seem to spark a connection between our auditory circuts and the hippocampus, a region responsible for memory and emotions. Quantities of this special tribute Collector's book are limited.
A Must for Any MJ Fan

A FlashToView Moment: REVIEW

There are alot of so called tribute magazines out there. They fall into 3 catagories:

1)Cheaply thrown together in order to make a buck off of Michael. Offering little to no substantial content.

2)Magazines that still vilify him in his death and still feel a need to cover him in lies or negativity. These topics to me include any discussions that involve his appearance or discussion of those false charges which he was found (many forget) NOT GUILTY of.

3)Well, researched, beautiful, work that pays tribute and honor to the man that was Michael Jackson. This falls into the last catagory. Michael had a longstanding relationship with Ebony, even granting them his last interview and photo shoot.

This edition is a beautifully made tribute that the magazine took time in making in order to give fans a true collectors magazine. What makes this magazine special is that it contains many rare photos from Ebony's own archives, interviews from Michael himself, and reflections from his good friends and employees of Michael (including his hairstylist, which I really liked her memories of him :)).

These reflections are not gossip, like what we have been seeing all over the news, but instead, cherished memories of their time spent with him. One of these treats is that from his concert manager who was organizing his tour. He shares with us his last night spent with Michael, the night before he passed. He also speaks about how Michael was so warmed by how the fans had received him. It is heartwarming and tender. This magazine offers much more, but I won't spoil it for anyone. I will just say, if you only get just one, get this one.

The greatest education in the world is watching the masters at work. Michael Jackson

A "Minuet In G" with a Motown - Funk Brothers' bassline?. . . hmm, equal to a smash-hit! 'A Lover's Concerto' by The Toys:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/sing-a-lovers-concerto-and-attack-the-toys/265278?ean=90771603425&cm_mmc=AFFILIATES-_-Linkshare-_-jpW8g6ckY34-_-10:1&r=1
This melody was adapted from "Minuet In G," a composition written by Christian Petzold. "Minuet In G" is often thought to be by Johann Sebastian Bach because it was included in a book of sheet music kept by Bach's wife Anna Magdalena. The song was written by Denny Randell and Sandy Linzer, who wrote all the original songs on the album and went to write some of the biggest hits for The Four Seasons. In an interview with Denny Randell, he explained that he started listening to
"Minuet In G" at an early age.
Why the title does not appear in the lyrics. Read Full Article:

A well known classical piece.
Critic Dave Thompson wrote, "Few records are this perfect. Riding across one of the most deceptively hook-laden melodies ever conceived ... 'A Lover’s Concerto'  also had an unusual structure that blurred the differences between its verses and choruses.
 The lyrics begin with:
   How gentle is the rain
That falls softly on the meadow,
Birds high up in the trees
Serenade the flowers with their melodies
But ”Lover’s Concerto” was anything but simple.

'A Lover’s Concerto' marked the apogee of the Girl Group sound.
And a sweet story —
'Because you girls are like kids. You're like toys.'
The girls were discovered at a talent show by Vince Marc, who became their manager. Before long, they were in the studio recording "A Lover's Concerto." Were the Toys aware the song was based on Bach?

The Toys scored with a # 1 hit

In September of 1965 a record was released on Bob Crewe's DynaVoice label that was to become an international, all-time classic.
"A LOVERS CONCERTO" by "THE TOYS" entered the charts and in just six short weeks surpassed luminaries the likes of "THE BEATLES, THE SUPREMES, ELVIS PRESLEY, THE ROLLING STONES, THE FOUR TOPS, STEVIE WONDER" etc..

The song fast forwarded to become a million seller.
The voice singing lead, was that of Babara Harris.

As a piece of trivia, she also sang one of the background parts in the harmony. The success of "THE TOYS" carried Barbara to countries all over the world. England, Holland, Germany, Japan, Australia just to name a few.

Barbara left the group, had a family and raised a total of seven children. While raising her family she never stopped singing. Barbara never liked to be tied to one style of music, which is what made her local band so much fun. Each night she performed 20 to 30 songs and did Gospel, blues, R&B, Rock, and Pop. That was Barbara then.

                                                         This Is "BARBARA NOW" —

"My journey has taken me through Gospel, Blues, R&B, Rock&Roll, Pop and Jazz.  The sum of all this is the Barbara I am now. I hope you can hear all the musical influences of my
 life in my music."

Who were The Funk Brothers:

What would the Motown Sound have been without the Funk Brothers’ inspired accompaniments?

Motown’s studio band—dubbed the Funk Brothers by Benny Benjamin,
according to legend—was comprised of multi-talented musicians who earned their musical chops in Detroit’s jazz and blues clubs. The improvisational skills and musical virtuosity they displayed,
from 1959 through 1972, in the so-called “snake pit” in Studio A set Motown singles apart from all others.

The subject of a 2002 documentary, “Standing in the Shadows of Motown,” the Funk Brothers received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2004 Grammy award ceremony.

Although the players changed over time, key figures included legendary bass guitarist James Jamerson, pianists and bandleaders Earl Van Dyke and Joe Hunter, and
drummer Benny “Papa Zita” Benjamin.

Despite the passage of time since Motown Records’ establishment in 1959
by Berry Gordy, tens of thousands of visitors pass through Hitsville U.S.A., home to the Motown Museum, each year. Their presence is a testimony to Motown’s legacy and to the charisma, talent and staying power of the music and those who made it.
 The Motown Museum:

Until next time, share the love.

FlashBack 2A View Moment: Originally written by Robert Hazard in 1979, this song gained recognition as a feminist anthem and was promoted by an award-winning video. It became a worldwide breakthrough hit during 1983 / 84 reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song received a Grammy Award nomination for Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocalist Performance by Cyndi Lauper. Noticeable take on Lauper's vocal style and energy; tailor maid, well respected and highly ranked among the Greatest Videos ever released: "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"

“My career never went like anyone else’s, so I never followed anyone.” ― Cyndi Lauper
Legendary and iconic singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper offers a poignant account of the journey that led her to become an international superstar—from her years growing up in Queens, New York, to the making of enduring hits like “Time After Time,” “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” and “True Colors,” to becoming an actress, a mother, an outspoken activist, and maintaining a music career that has lasted more than thirty years.

Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir [NOOK Book]

After leaving her childhood home at seventeen, Cyndi took on a series of jobs: racetrack hot walker, IHOP waitress, and, as she puts it, “gal Friday the thirteenth,” as she pursued her passion for music. She worked her way up playing small gigs and broke out in 1983 with She’s So Unusual, which earned her a Grammy for Best New Artist and made her the first female artist in history to have four top-five singles on a debut album. And while global fame wasn’t always what she expected, she has remained focused on what matters most. Cyndi is a gutsy real-life heroine who has never been afraid to speak her mind and stick up for a cause—whether it’s women’s rights, gay rights, or fighting against HIV/AIDS.

@CyndiLauper . . . She's So Unusual.

Despite dividing opinion amongst some religious and conservative commentators,
'Born This Way'   is the second studio album by American recording artist Lady Gaga, which was released on May 23, 2011, by Interscope Records. Born This Way was well received by music critics; points of acclaim went to the varying musical styles in the album and Gaga's vocals. However, others felt Gaga was trying too hard to please everyone through the album's self-empowerment message. Several publications included the album in their year-end critic lists. Born This Way when on to receive three Grammy Award nominations, including Gaga's third consecutive nomination for Album of the Year.

Born This Way debuted in the top five spots of every major market, including the Billboard 200. In the United States, Born This Way sold 1.108 million copies in its first week – the largest first week album sales in five years. "Born This Way" became the 1000th song to reach the number one spot of Billboard Hot 100 since the inauguration of the chart in 1958.

Lady Gaga is well-recognized for her outré sense of style as a recording artist, in fashion, in performance and in her music videos.Yes, She was 'Born This Way '!

The ultimate guide to the new and hip -- A.P. Magazine!

Alternative Press is an American music magazine based in Cleveland, Ohio. It generally provides readers with band interviews, photos, information on upcoming releases, and music charts. It was founded in 1985 by Mike Shea.

The first issue of Alternative Press was simply a photocopied fanzine, distributed at concerts in Cleveland, Ohio beginning in June 1985 by AP's founder, Mike Shea. He disliked the music that was then being broadcast on radio stations and believed that bands playing underground music should be given more media coverage "all in the same spot", he said.  Shea began working on his first issue in his mother's house in Aurora, Ohio. Shea and a friend, Jimmy Kosicki, targeted the Cleveland neighborhood of Coventry. "I took my high school newspaper from Aurora High that looked nice and clean and offset print. I'd walk into these flower shops and Hallmark shops, and I'd say 'We're going to put out and entertainment publication, and it's going to be for kids and [the ad is] only $25.' And they'd look at my high school newspaper and say, 'It's really professional...' That's how we got enough money to make the first issue."

With the growth of alternative rock in the early 1990s, circulation began to increase. AP's covers included bands such as Red Hot Chili Peppers and Soundgarden, prior to each band's mainstream success.. Artists who have graced AP's cover over the years:

In 1994, the magazine was doing cover stories on Beastie Boys, Henry Rollins and Love and Rockets. Norman Wonderly, now the publisher, was credited by Shea as having "made most of these happen and the more Norman got what he wanted, the more artists wanted their cover shoots to look the way Norman wanted, and so on. It wasn’t always easy; there were some nasty phone calls exchanged between everyone, and there was always some publicist who wanted to give us one half-hour of shoot time so the artist could go shopping or some stupid thing. Did we sometimes protest too much? Maybe, but we were up against a lot; we were underfinanced and still underappreciated in some corners of the music business, so we had to fight scrappily and mean when it was called for. Nobody takes you seriously unless you take yourself seriously, and that’s what Norman brings to his position to this day."

By the time of Alternative Press Magazine 20th anniversary in 2005, AP had grown to an average size of 112 pages per issue and now averages between 198 to 220-plus pages a month.  The magazine's monthly columns include "The AP Poll", "In the Studio", "AP&R (unsigned bands of the month)", "Chalkboard Confessional", "Musician of the Month", "My Favorite Gear", "Next Exit", "Gig Bag", "1000 Words", "Beauty and the Band", and "10 Essential."

Alternative Press has also sponsored a radio show aired on XM Radio, a podcast featuring in-depth discussions on various topics with people such as Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and Kevin Lyman, and a compilation CD. AP is a major sponsor of Warped Tour, the Taste of Chaos tour, and its own "The AP Tour."  The magazine's CEO/founder is Mike Shea, with Joe Scarpelli as the general manager. The company is currently located in Cleveland, Ohio.

A Flash 2A View: You’ve probably heard the song “Informer” by Snow (Super Notorious Outrageous Whiteboy), even if you don’t know you have. A catchy early-90s dancehall reggae song with a “stop snitching” message, “Informer” spent seven straight weeks at #1 on the Billboard Singles Chart in 1993 ---
making it the biggest reggae single of all time that made it to platinum.
                                                   Was It A One-Hit Wonder?
Some people may have an collective consciousness about "Informer", but what became of the song's producers/writers/lyricist and it's star singer? They seem to have disappeared.
