FlashBack 2A View Moment: Originally written by Robert Hazard in 1979, this song gained recognition as a feminist anthem and was promoted by an award-winning video. It became a worldwide breakthrough hit during 1983 / 84 reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song received a Grammy Award nomination for Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocalist Performance by Cyndi Lauper. Noticeable take on Lauper's vocal style and energy; tailor maid, well respected and highly ranked among the Greatest Videos ever released: "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"

“My career never went like anyone else’s, so I never followed anyone.” ― Cyndi Lauper
Legendary and iconic singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper offers a poignant account of the journey that led her to become an international superstar—from her years growing up in Queens, New York, to the making of enduring hits like “Time After Time,” “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” and “True Colors,” to becoming an actress, a mother, an outspoken activist, and maintaining a music career that has lasted more than thirty years.

Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir [NOOK Book]

After leaving her childhood home at seventeen, Cyndi took on a series of jobs: racetrack hot walker, IHOP waitress, and, as she puts it, “gal Friday the thirteenth,” as she pursued her passion for music. She worked her way up playing small gigs and broke out in 1983 with She’s So Unusual, which earned her a Grammy for Best New Artist and made her the first female artist in history to have four top-five singles on a debut album. And while global fame wasn’t always what she expected, she has remained focused on what matters most. Cyndi is a gutsy real-life heroine who has never been afraid to speak her mind and stick up for a cause—whether it’s women’s rights, gay rights, or fighting against HIV/AIDS.

@CyndiLauper . . . She's So Unusual.

The ultimate guide to the new and hip. A.P. Magazine

Alternative Press Magazine includes music, videos, books, movies, fanzine reviews, upcoming release listings, music charts from the people who know musicians and readers, the latest news from inside the world of music, well-researched music journalism, first looks at today's up-and-coming bands, and guides to the hippest scenes. Alternative Press Magazine also features in-depth interviews, contests, and giveaways. Provocative and entertaining, A.P. is the most respected source of new music information today.

The ultimate guide to the new and hip -- A.P. Magazine!

Alternative Press is an American music magazine based in Cleveland, Ohio. It generally provides readers with band interviews, photos, information on upcoming releases, and music charts. It was founded in 1985 by Mike Shea.

The first issue of Alternative Press was simply a photocopied fanzine, distributed at concerts in Cleveland, Ohio beginning in June 1985 by AP's founder, Mike Shea. He disliked the music that was then being broadcast on radio stations and believed that bands playing underground music should be given more media coverage "all in the same spot", he said.  Shea began working on his first issue in his mother's house in Aurora, Ohio. Shea and a friend, Jimmy Kosicki, targeted the Cleveland neighborhood of Coventry. "I took my high school newspaper from Aurora High that looked nice and clean and offset print. I'd walk into these flower shops and Hallmark shops, and I'd say 'We're going to put out and entertainment publication, and it's going to be for kids and [the ad is] only $25.' And they'd look at my high school newspaper and say, 'It's really professional...' That's how we got enough money to make the first issue."

With the growth of alternative rock in the early 1990s, circulation began to increase. AP's covers included bands such as Red Hot Chili Peppers and Soundgarden, prior to each band's mainstream success.. Artists who have graced AP's cover over the years:
Congratulates Alternative Press Magazine on their 300 issues!

In 1994, the magazine was doing cover stories on Beastie Boys, Henry Rollins and Love and Rockets. Norman Wonderly, now the publisher, was credited by Shea as having "made most of these happen and the more Norman got what he wanted, the more artists wanted their cover shoots to look the way Norman wanted, and so on. It wasn’t always easy; there were some nasty phone calls exchanged between everyone, and there was always some publicist who wanted to give us one half-hour of shoot time so the artist could go shopping or some stupid thing. Did we sometimes protest too much? Maybe, but we were up against a lot; we were underfinanced and still underappreciated in some corners of the music business, so we had to fight scrappily and mean when it was called for. Nobody takes you seriously unless you take yourself seriously, and that’s what Norman brings to his position to this day."

By the time of Alternative Press Magazine 20th anniversary in 2005, AP had grown to an average size of 112 pages per issue and now averages between 198 to 220-plus pages a month.  The magazine's monthly columns include "The AP Poll", "In the Studio", "AP&R (unsigned bands of the month)", "Chalkboard Confessional", "Musician of the Month", "My Favorite Gear", "Next Exit", "Gig Bag", "1000 Words", "Beauty and the Band", and "10 Essential."

Alternative Press has also sponsored a radio show aired on XM Radio, a podcast featuring in-depth discussions on various topics with people such as Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and Kevin Lyman, and a compilation CD. AP is a major sponsor of Warped Tour, the Taste of Chaos tour, and its own "The AP Tour."  The magazine's CEO/founder is Mike Shea, with Joe Scarpelli as the general manager. The company is currently located in Cleveland, Ohio.

A Flash 2A View: You’ve probably heard the song “Informer” by Snow (Super Notorious Outrageous Whiteboy), even if you don’t know you have. A catchy early-90s dancehall reggae song with a “stop snitching” message, “Informer” spent seven straight weeks at #1 on the Billboard Singles Chart in 1993 ---
making it the biggest reggae single of all time that made it to platinum.
                                                   Was It A One-Hit Wonder?
Some people may have an collective consciousness about "Informer", but what became of the song's producers/writers/lyricist and it's star singer? They seem to have disappeared.

“Yet entertainment--as I define it, pleasure and all--remains the only sure means we have of bridging, or at least of feeling as if we have bridged, the gulf of consciousness that separates each of us from everybody else. The best response to those who would cheapen and exploit it is not to disparage or repudiate but to reclaim entertainment as a job fit for artists and for audiences, a two-way exchange of attention, experience, and the universal hunger for connection.”

Beyoncé graces the cover while 'Ruling The World' in VOGUE!

Vogue, a fashion magazine that represent and defines its name beautifully,
has been in circulation for over 100 years.

Arthur Turnure founded  Vogue in 1892 as a weekly publication in the United States, sponsored by Kristoffer Wright. When he died in 1909, Condé Montrose Nast picked up the magazine and slowly began growing its publication. He changed it to a bi-weekly magazine and also started Vogue overseas starting in the 1910s. He first went to Britain in 1916, and started a Vogue there, then to Spain, and then to Italy and France in 1920, where it was a huge success. The magazine's number of publications and profit increased dramatically under his management.
The magazine's number of subscriptions surged during the Depression, and again during World War II. During this time, noted critic and former Vanity Fair editor Frank Crowninshield served as its editor, having been moved over from Vanity Fair by publisher Condé Nast.

In the 1960s, with Diana Vreeland as editor-in-chief and personality, the magazine began to appeal to the youth of the sexual revolution by focusing more on contemporary fashion and editorial features openly discussing sexuality. Toward this end, Vogue extended coverage to include East Village boutiques such as Limbo on St. Mark's Place as well as featuring "downtown" personalities such as Warhol "Superstar" Jane Holzer's favorite haunts. Vogue also continued making household names out of models, a practice that continued with Suzy Parker, Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton, Lauren Hutton, Veruschka, Marisa Berenson, Penelope Tree, and others.

In 1973, Vogue became a monthly publication. Under editor-in-chief Grace Mirabella, the magazine underwent extensive editorial and stylistic changes to respond to changes in the lifestyles of its target audience. Over 100 years later today, Vogue Magazine is designed for the woman who wants to stay on top of all the latest fashion trends in clothes, accessories, beauty, and art.
Each issue of Vogue Magazine contains pages of information on the latest styles, plus interviews, news, and who's who features.

Prior to Queen B! 'Rules The World', Beyoncé was a student of performing arts schools and performed in singing and dancing competitions as a child before becoming the lead singer of Destiny's Child, one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time, in the 1990s.

Beyoncé work has earned her numerous awards and accolades such as 17 Grammy Awards, 12 MTV Video Music Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (as part of Destiny's Child). Flash2AView Moment: Rolling Stone Magazine!

"Rollin' Stone"?

The year was 1967 when Jann S. Wenner alone with jazz critic Ralph Gleason (whom have since passed in 1975 at aged of 58) founded Rolling Stone magazine. Wenner borrowed from family members and his soon to be in-laws $7,500 to jump start the magazine which was named after the 1950 Muddy Waters song entitled "Rollin' Stone". As a testament to Gleason's lasting legacy is that his name still remains on the magazine's masthead today, more than three decades after his death. What has become the cornerstone of today's music magazines wasn't always the case for Rolling Stone Mag. RS magazine had originally started-out and identified itself with and reported on the hippie counterculture of the late 60's era. However, RS founders had the foresight to distanced the magazine's platform from the underground newspapers of its time; by embracing a more traditional journalistic approach and avoiding the radical politics presented by underground press. Over the decades Rolling Stone magazine has matured a great deal with featured cutting edge music reviews, in-depth interviews, provocative photos, and award-winning features. It also features political and social examinations of the world today and how these issues affect you. Rolling Stone Magazine is the definitive source for music information and popular culture. The Rolling Stone Magazine de facto motto: "is not just about the music, but about the things and attitudes that music embraces." Relax and Enjoy!
