The year was 1967 when Jann S. Wenner alone with jazz critic Ralph Gleason (whom have since passed in 1975 at aged of 58) founded Rolling Stone magazine. Wenner borrowed from family members and his soon to be in-laws $7,500 to jump start the magazine which was named after the 1950 Muddy Waters song entitled "Rollin' Stone". As a testament to Gleason's lasting legacy is that his name still remains on the magazine's masthead today, more than three decades after his death. What has become the cornerstone of today's music magazines wasn't always the case for Rolling Stone Mag. RS magazine had originally started-out and identified itself with and reported on the hippie counterculture of the late 60's era. However, RS founders had the foresight to distanced the magazine's platform from the underground newspapers of its time; by embracing a more traditional journalistic approach and avoiding the radical politics presented by underground press. Over the decades Rolling Stone magazine has matured a great deal with featured cutting edge music reviews, in-depth interviews, provocative photos, and award-winning features. It also features political and social examinations of the world today and how these issues affect you. Rolling Stone Magazine is the definitive source for music information and popular culture. The Rolling Stone Magazine de facto motto: "is not just about the music, but about the things and attitudes that music embraces." Relax and Enjoy!
