The New Boss of Hip-hop on a higher level with new music

XXL Magazine is an urban lifestyle magazine that covers all aspects of hip-hop culture. As THE new voice of the Hip-Hop Generation, XXL Magazine focuses on music, style, sports, and politics with intelligence, sophistication, integrity and, most of all, respect.

The New Boss of Hip-hop!
XXL Mag. published by Harris Publications, founded in 1997. XXL magazine's past editors include Reginald C. Dennis (formerly of The Source), Sheena Lester (former editor-in-chief of RapPages and Vibe music editor), Elliott Wilson (formerly of ego trip and The Source, was locked in at number 7 slot on The Source's Digital 30 list.) and Datwon Thomas (former Editor-In-Chief of King).

In May 2009 Datwon Thomas resigned from XXL and executive editor Vanessa Satten, who had been with XXL since 1998, was named the new Editor-in-Chief. In December 2006, XXL took over the struggling hip hop producer and DJ magazine Scratch (another publication owned by Harris Publications), re-brand it as XXL Presents Scratch Magazine.

But Scratch shuts it down in September of 2007. Other titles with limited runs have been launched under the XXL brand, including Hip-Hop Soul, Eye Candy and Shade45. XXL has released many other special projects including tour programs, mixtapes and exclusive DVDs. XXL also maintains a popular website, which provides daily hip hop news, original content and content from the magazine. In 2013, XXL started their own annual awards, at which the top 5 being chosen by a public vote and all other winners and nominees picked by the XXL staff.

In August, 2005, Eminem and XXL teamed up to release a special issue titled XXL Presents Shade 45, and was designed to give maximum exposure to Shade 45 as a radio station, and at the same time give maximum exposure to the Shady Records label as a whole, as well as the radio DJ's and G-Unit Records' artists.

XXL executive Publisher, Jonathan Rheingold, stated that typically magazines based around particular artists were not favorable, but "since Shade 45 is a truly authentic and uncensored rap radio channel, the marriage with the XXL brand made sense," with the feeling that it is what would interest rap fans. In November 2008 XXL released XXL Raps Volume 1, which included music from 50 Cent, G-Unit, Common, Jim Jones, & Fabolous. In September 2006, XXL put a special 90 minute DVD called XXL DVD Magazine Vol. 1, which featured exclusive interviews and content with big name rappers such as 50 Cent, Ice Cube, Fat Joe, Paul Wall, & Mike Jones.

XXL Mag. promotes: Top 10 Freshmen list. The issue features the ten picks of whom to watch out for on the cover of the magazine and showcases new rappers that aren't well known, but are considered to be threats on the rise in the Hip-hop world. The list has become known to create an notorious Buzz and is credited for giving many artists their first taste of fame and fortune.

A Flash 2 A View moment: The Bee Gees' overwhelming success rose during the disco bubble. By the end of 1979, disco was rapidly declining in popularity, and the backlash against disco put the Bee Gees' American career in a tailspin. Radio stations around America began promoting "Bee Gee Free Weekends". Brothers Gibbs most potent years was their remarkable run from 1975 to 1979 as how The Bee Gees' international popularity was sustained. Barry Gibb considered the success of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack a blessing. The album stayed atop the album charts for 24 straight weeks from January to July 1978 and stayed on Billboard's album charts for 120 weeks until March 1980.

“Yet entertainment--as I define it, pleasure and all--remains the only sure means we have of bridging, or at least of feeling as if we have bridged, the gulf of consciousness that separates each of us from everybody else. The best response to those who would cheapen and exploit it is not to disparage or repudiate but to reclaim entertainment as a job fit for artists and for audiences, a two-way exchange of attention, experience, and the universal hunger for connection.”
―Micheal Chabon.

Beyoncé graces the cover while 'Ruling The World' in VOGUE!

Vogue, a fashion magazine that represent and defines its name beautifully,
has been in circulation for over 100 years.

Arthur Turnure founded  Vogue in 1892 as a weekly publication in the United States, sponsored by Kristoffer Wright. When he died in 1909, Condé Montrose Nast picked up the magazine and slowly began growing its publication. He changed it to a bi-weekly magazine and also started Vogue overseas starting in the 1910s. He first went to Britain in 1916, and started a Vogue there, then to Spain, and then to Italy and France in 1920, where it was a huge success. The magazine's number of publications and profit increased dramatically under his management.
The magazine's number of subscriptions surged during the Depression, and again during World War II. During this time, noted critic and former Vanity Fair editor Frank Crowninshield served as its editor, having been moved over from Vanity Fair by publisher Condé Nast.

In the 1960s, with Diana Vreeland as editor-in-chief and personality, the magazine began to appeal to the youth of the sexual revolution by focusing more on contemporary fashion and editorial features openly discussing sexuality. Toward this end, Vogue extended coverage to include East Village boutiques such as Limbo on St. Mark's Place as well as featuring "downtown" personalities such as Warhol "Superstar" Jane Holzer's favorite haunts. Vogue also continued making household names out of models, a practice that continued with Suzy Parker, Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton, Lauren Hutton, Veruschka, Marisa Berenson, Penelope Tree, and others.

In 1973, Vogue became a monthly publication. Under editor-in-chief Grace Mirabella, the magazine underwent extensive editorial and stylistic changes to respond to changes in the lifestyles of its target audience. Over 100 years later today, Vogue Magazine is designed for the woman who wants to stay on top of all the latest fashion trends in clothes, accessories, beauty, and art.
Each issue of Vogue Magazine contains pages of information on the latest styles, plus interviews, news, and who's who features.

Prior to Queen B! 'Rules The World', Beyoncé was a student of performing arts schools and performed in singing and dancing competitions as a child before becoming the lead singer of Destiny's Child, one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time, in the 1990s.

Beyoncé work has earned her numerous awards and accolades such as 17 Grammy Awards, 12 MTV Video Music Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (as part of Destiny's Child). As a solo artist, Knowles has sold over 13 million albums in the United States and over 118 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. In 2009, Billboard named her the Top Female Artist and Top Radio Songs Artist of the 2000s decade that ranked her as the fourth Artist of the Decade.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) also recognized Knowles as the Top Certified Artist of the 2000s. Following year, Knowles was ranked first on Forbes Celebrity list of the "100 Most Powerful and Influential Musicians in the World". She also appeared on VH1's list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time",and was ranked third on their "100 Greatest Women in Music" list in 2012.

For the month of March 2013, Beyoncé graces the cover of Vogue. She is well recognized by many titles; Chart-topper, glamour wife, style icon, filmmaker, new mom, business mogul—Beyoncé is at the height of her powers and writing her own script as she 'Rules The World' en-VOGUE!

Flash2AView Moment: Rolling Stone Magazine!

"Rollin' Stone"?

The year was 1967 when Jann S. Wenner alone with jazz critic Ralph Gleason (whom have since passed in 1975 at aged of 58) founded Rolling Stone magazine. Wenner borrowed from family members and his soon to be in-laws $7,500 to jump start the magazine which was named after the 1950 Muddy Waters song entitled "Rollin' Stone". As a testament to Gleason's lasting legacy is that his name still remains on the magazine's masthead today, more than three decades after his death. What has become the cornerstone of today's music magazines wasn't always the case for Rolling Stone Mag. RS magazine had originally started-out and identified itself with and reported on the hippie counterculture of the late 60's era. However, RS founders had the foresight to distanced the magazine's platform from the underground newspapers of its time; by embracing a more traditional journalistic approach and avoiding the radical politics presented by underground press. Over the decades Rolling Stone magazine has matured a great deal with featured cutting edge music reviews, in-depth interviews, provocative photos, and award-winning features. It also features political and social examinations of the world today and how these issues affect you. Rolling Stone Magazine is the definitive source for music information and popular culture. The Rolling Stone Magazine de facto motto: "is not just about the music, but about the things and attitudes that music embraces." Relax and Enjoy!
